Ministry Suggests Reducing Taxes on Mobile Phones and Telecom Sector

The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology has proposed to the government to abolish regulatory fees on import of telecom equipment, reduce taxes for new IT graduates, simplify taxes on the sector as well as reduce taxes on mobile phones.  The goal is to make things easier.  Business in the country.

Official sources told ProPakistani that senior officials from the Ministry of Information Technology and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) held a meeting in which suggestions were made.

Sources said that the ministry rated the proposals as first priority and second priority so as not to affect the sector and facilitate revenue generation.

In the first priority, the ministry proposed abolishing regulatory fees on imports of telecom equipment.  In addition, tax credits are proposed in the same category for recent IT graduates.  In the same category, the ministry proposed to simplify the tax structure of the sector, which is a major obstacle to the development of the industry.

In the second category, however, the ministry proposed a reduction in taxes on mobile phones to achieve digital vision.

The Senate Standing Committee has also proposed a reduction in taxes on mobile phones.  The committee was told that there is a tax of one billion rupees.  80,000 on a 500 cell phone.  The committee also proposed a tax exemption on laptop computers.  According to the Secretary Information Technology, the FBR has been asked to reduce the tax on imported phones.
