Sony IMX800 detailed: 1/1.49" sensor with 54MP resolution

There have been a lot of leaks about a sensor called "Sony IMX800" which was supposed to be huge and will be shown on several flagships.  There may be a case of misidentification, so let's correct the log.

The original Sony IMX800 debuted with the Honor 70 series. The resolution is an exceptional 54MP or more precisely 8768 x 6144 pixels.  With 4 to 1 pixel tethering support, most phones that use this sensor will likely default to 13.5MP or 12MP.

As far as size is concerned, the sensor has a 1/1.49" optical format. Not as big as some of the compact offerings, but also big enough among flagships - like Honor Magic 4 Pro has a 1/1.56" sensor, like Galaxy S22 and S22+  and Oppo Find X5 Pro and many more..

Remarkably, the pixel size is 1.0 µm, which goes up to 2.0 µm with binding enabled.  This is an important metric, especially at a time when many sensors have sunk below the 1.0 µm mark (especially those with higher resolution).

This will be our first encounter with the Honor 70 IMX800 series, but the sensor will likely be a standout in other camera-based phones as well.  which has not yet been disclosed.
