Telecom Companies Announce Huge Increase in Call and Internet Package Prices

Cellular carriers have once again raised the prices of call and data packages.  Jazz, Zong and Telenor have all increased their call and data rates.

This is the second time since the January 2022 mini budget that companies have raised prices for calling and internet packages.

According to sellers and retailers, companies are beginning to apply the new prices.  The firms have increased the superload by Rs.  50 to 100 rupees.  Various internet and data packages have been increased from Rs.  From 10 to 25 rupees.  Likewise, the prices of the monthly calling packages have also been increased.  The prices for monthly call packages have been increased from Rs.  40 to 100 rupees.  The rates for the all-in-one weekly package have been increased from Rs.  10 to Rs.

In January, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government passed a mini budget in which the reservation tax was increased from 10% to 15% against the wishes of the telecom sector.

According to the Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA), earlier the largest telecom operator was allowed to increase the bundle rates but in the last few months all the other companies were allowed to increase the bundle rates with the approval of the PTA.

The authority has shared draft tariff regulations with cellular carriers, and after implementing the regulations, CMOs will have to request permission before raising prices for calling and internet packages.
