Samsung to Make Google Pixel 7’s 4nm Tensor Chip

Samsung made a tensor chip from the Google Pixel 6 last year and will do so again for the Pixel 7. The report by Korean media, citing industry sources, claims that Samsung will begin mass production of the second-generation Pixel 7 chip. The Pixel 7 is in the process of 4nm this month.

The report also talks about PLP technology that will be used on these chips. Improves chip production and reduces costs.

PLP is a packaging technique in which chips cut from a wafer are placed on a rectangular panel. It is possible to minimize the discarded edge, thereby reducing cost and improving productivity.

Sources say that Samsung is also in talks with Google to develop chips for other applications such as Google's own server chips. Samsung has reportedly provided Google with components for DRAM and NAND flash, as well as chips used in Waymo's independent cars.

The Google Pixel 6's tensor chip has shrunk with incredible battery life and hopefully history won't repeat itself this year.

The company has confirmed that the Pixel 7 phones will be launched this fall, probably around October.
