Google Pixel 7 Display Details Leaked Months Before Launch

Google already showed us what the Pixel 7 looks like at its I/O developer conference earlier this month.  Next-gen Pixel phones will have the same camera visor design as before, but with a separate cutout instead of the same strap.

Google hasn't shared any details about the phone, but a new leak from 9to5Google shows us what to expect from the phone's screen.  The tech blog developer team has discovered that Google has created two new rendering software in the Android Open Source Project (AOSP).

The display drivers are marked as C10 and P10, which correspond to the codenames of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, respectively.  Searching the code for these drivers revealed that the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro will have the same Samsung display panels as before.  However, Google is also working on supporting a new generation of Samsung panels so we can see a slight upgrade.

The Pixel 7 will have a 1080p screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, while the Pixel 7 Pro will have a resolution of up to 2K with a 120Hz refresh rate.  Those are exactly the numbers from last year's Pixel 6 lineup.  The Pixel 7 Pro will also have a native 1080p mode to save battery.

The Pixel 7 is slightly smaller than the Pixel 6 with panels that are 1mm narrow and 2mm smaller.  However, the Pixel 7 Pro will be the same size as the Pixel 6 Pro.

If this leak proves true, we might be looking at a slightly different phone from the previous year with the same design and even the same display glasses.  However, we're still a few months away from launch, so things may eventually change.
