Islamabad is Getting New Public Transport Services

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is preparing new routes for intercity public transport.

The announcement was made by CDA President Amir Ali Ahmed while addressing the Research Conference on Social Transformation and Progress (RASTA) at the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE).

The head of the Community Development Authority expressed his concerns about traffic congestion in the federal capital.  He said that the horizontal expansion of the city leads to a deterioration in the traffic situation.  Ali added that some new projects will facilitate traffic in the city and new roads will connect different parts of the city to the center.

The government is planning to renovate the road from Coral to Tee Chuk.  Other projects include the construction of the Blue Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line on the highway as well as the development of the BRT Green Line from Bhara Kahu to Pims.

Currently, CDA's top priority is to restore Islamabad's old road infrastructure and provide better transportation solutions to the general public.  Economic and environmental reforms are expected as a result of improved transportation facilities in and around the Federal Capital.
