The government gave good news to mobile phone users

At the request of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, the government has taken a major step towards protecting mobile users by launching a policy-making process to allow users to block unwanted SMS messages.

According to the details, in this regard, the Pakistan Communications Authority (PTA) will immediately review the consumer data privacy laws, consumer privacy is a fundamental constitutional right of citizens and the government will not allow any violation of it.  Adviser to the Prime Minister on Strategic Reforms Salman Sufi has advised the Chairman PTA regarding the protection of data of mobile phone users and SMS messages sent by marketers.

Immediate policy has been approved to allow citizens to block unwanted SMS messages.  The Special Assistant apprised the Prime Minister of the PTA's instructions for immediate review of privacy laws for citizens as well as the immovable SMS text messages sent to consumers for marketers.

He said that privacy of citizens is a constitutional right and the Prime Minister wanted to ensure that it was not violated.  The Prime Minister will today brief the Prime Minister's Strategic Reforms Unit on the steps being taken in this regard.  Suggested measures in this regard include that the user will be able to notify the sending sender of the message received without permission.

In addition, the user has the right to refuse to send any message to any sending company which the company must comply with.  In addition, the company will be obliged not to give user data to any other company without their consent.
