The US military has suspended former communications chief Lieutenant General (retired) Gary Walsky for mocking First Lady Jill Biden's support for abortion rights.
A military spokesman said Lieutenant General Theodore Martin, commander of the military branch's Combined Arms Center, had suspended Walsky from his advisory work to investigate whether the tweet violated the rules for retired officers.
The tweet came in response to Biden's June 24 tweet about the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe Wade, in which the first lady lamented the impact the ruling had on women.
An accountant named Wolesky replied, "Finally, you are glad to know what a woman is." Some on the podium interpreted the comment as a verbal snapshot of Biden's support for the transgender community in the White House.
Before retiring in 2020, Woleski was in charge of US ground forces in Iraq and headed the army's infamous 101st Airborne Division, perhaps best known for its spearheads during the invasion of Normandy in World War II.
