Toyota will integrate a diesel hybrid engine into the upcoming Fortuner SUV. According to Thai Headlight Magazine, Toyota will introduce the next generation Fortuner next year.
According to the report, the third generation of Fortune will sit on a brand new TNGA-F platform. It will have the same 2.8-liter turbodiesel, but paired with a lighter hybrid system. This system will provide immediate assistance in running and operating the air conditioning unit to boost the fuel economy.
The author also claims that the next generation diesel hybrid variant will cost less than the base variant Fortuner Legend. Although he did not specify if the Legender variety would be a light hybrid. In addition to a better fuel economy, the Hybrid Fortuner will also receive an electric bump.
Toyota will add the new hybrid engine to other vehicles such as Land Cruiser, Prado, Hayes, Granas and other large vehicles with rear wheel drive or all wheel drive. It combines its lightweight hybrid system with 2.5- and 3.5-liter engines.
