Suzuki Reveals Its Supercar Killer With a Hybrid Hayabusa Engine

Suzuki is known for making funky, compact and lightweight economy cars like the Swift, Cultus, Wagon R and Jimny, or for its super-fast bikes like the legendary Hayabusa.

In a recent reveal, the company brought its specialties together to create a super-strong, lightweight, sharp-looking killer car with a Hayabusa hybrid powertrain.

The concept car - dubbed the Vision Gran Turismo (VGT) - is Suzuki's iteration of modern speedsters such as the Mercedes-McLaren SLR Stirling Moss, Ferrarri Monza SP and BAC Mono.  The VGT is a striking looking vehicle that masterfully blends modern speedster design with Suzuki Swift design cues.

The Suzuki VGT has a 1.34-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with a capacity of 1.34 liters, which produces 190 horsepower and a torque of 150 Nm.  But to make it a true supercar killer, Suzuki has mated its powertrain with three electric motors that allow the hybrid to produce a combined 430 horsepower and 610 Nm of torque.

In a world of 2,000-horsepower supercars, the Suzuki VGT's performance numbers seem insignificant.  However, its power is more than enough as the car weighs only 970 kg.

Actual launch

Unfortunately, if everything sounds too good to be true, that's because it is.  Suzuki has revealed the speed car for the upcoming video game Gran Turismo 7, hence the name Vision Gran Turismo.

At the moment, the company has no intention of creating a realistic version of VGT.  Its strength lies in making modest economy cars and insane sports bikes, which it will likely stick to unless there is an unexpected demand and desire for it based on its default avatar.
