Bad news for Punjab University students

Punjab University's budget deficit, administration has proposed more than 100% increase in transport fares for students and library fees.

Punjab University is facing a financial deficit of Rs 1.5 billion.  In light of rising fiscal deficits and inflation, the university's finance committee has proposed an increase in transportation fees for next year.  The transfer fee till next semester will be Rs. 3,500.  The current semester fee is Rs. 1,990 per student.

Now the library fee will be Rs.1000, in the past the library fee was Rs.400 per semester while new students will be charged Rs.1200 electricity which was Rs.910 earlier.

The budget proposal will be approved in the meeting of Punjab University Syndicate tomorrow.  According to an official spokesperson of the university, the increase has been proposed in the light of rising inflation and petrol prices.  Students are still subsidized.
