Fire erupts at Russia's oil refinery after Ukrainian drone strike

An oil refinery has caught fire after an alleged drone strike in southern Russia near the Ukrainian border during an ongoing military operation in an Eastern European country.

Video of the drone crash at the Novoshakhtinsk refinery in the Rostov region was shared on Ukraine's ground forces' YouTube channel, which he called "sacred fire."  However, Ukrainian officials have not yet commented.

Russia's state-run news agency TASS quoted Rostov Governor Vasily Golobov as saying that fragments of the drone had been found on the territory of the oil refinery.

He confirmed that no one was injured in the crash, adding that work had been halted to assess the damage to the oil installation.

Local Russian officials have blamed Ukraine for the attack.

The blast at the refinery is the latest in a series of explosions and fires in Russia that may have been linked to military supplies since President Vladimir Putin ordered a military operation in Ukraine on February 24.

In April, Russia claimed that two Ukrainian military helicopters had targeted an oil storage facility in Belgorod.  Later that month, a fire broke out at an ammunition depot near the Ukrainian border.
