Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday rejected the summary of the return of government offices and educational institutions at the federal level as a holiday.
During a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, the prime minister rejected the proposal and directed the authorities concerned to ensure that the Sabbath is observed as a working day.
It was reported last week that a summary had been sent to the federal cabinet recommending that Saturday be restored as a holiday and return to the two-day weekend.
But the prime minister rejected the proposal during a cabinet meeting before leaving for Turkey on a three-day official visit.
Shortly after his election in April, Prime Minister Shahbaz ordered the end of the two-week holiday, announcing that only Sunday would be observed in federal government offices and educational institutions.
The decision sparked a backlash from government employees and students who protested at the federal level forcing the government to return for a two-day weekend.
