Top Indian court demands BJP's Nupur Sharma to apologise on blasphemous comments

New Delhi - India's Supreme Court on Friday criticized former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Nopur Sharma for making derogatory remarks about the Prophet of Islam, saying he should apologize for his comments.

Citing the ongoing unrest in the country, the court said the controversial remarks had set the whole of India on fire.

In a televised debate, Sharma made anti-Islamic remarks last month that not only sparked clashes in an Indian state as Muslims demanded the arrest of the speaker, but also criticized Muslim countries and institutions.

He was removed after protests from Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iran and other Muslim countries against the Indian government.

The Supreme Court of India also asked him to appear on a TV channel and apologize to the nation for his behavior.

The court said this while hearing Sharma's plea in which various cases have been tried against him across the country.

However, the court rejected his request, saying "the request betrays his arrogance, and the country's judges are too young for him."

When her lawyer told the court that she had already issued an apology and withdrew her comments, the judges asked her to conditionally withdraw her comments, saying that if she had made public sentiments  Has been hurt.
