Japan Extends ¥315 Million Grant to Pakistan

The signing ceremony of the Exchange of Notes and Grants Agreement between the Governments of Pakistan and Japan on Human Resource Development Scholarships (JDS) Scheme 2023 was held at the Ministry of Economic Affairs here on Thursday.

The Government of Japan has provided grant assistance of ¥315 million (about US$2.4 million) to the Government of Pakistan through JICA for the year 2023.

The grant agreement was signed by Mohammad Humeer Karim, Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Pakistan and ITO Takeshi/Acting Minister of Japan Affairs in Pakistan.

This will be the sixth JDS Project Scholarship awarded to Pakistan.  Under this scholarship, seventeen (17) scholarships are offered for Masters and one (01) for PhD/Doctoral programs at various universities in Japan.

Since the inception of the JDS project in 2018, a total of five groups (each consisting of approximately 18 participants) have benefited from this scholarship.  This project has played an important role in enhancing the capacity and improving the performance of the young officers who play a vital role in it.  Socio-economic development of the country.

Apart from this project, Japan often invites Pakistani government officials to participate in various short-term training courses conducted in Japan.

Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs Muhammad Hamar Karim and Joint Secretary (Japan) Saeed Ashraf Siddiqui emphasized the provision of all necessary facilities for further meaningful cooperation and appreciated the valuable support of the government and the people of Japan.  between the two sides.

Ita Takeshi Minister/Acting Office of Japan in Pakistan and JICA President reiterated his commitment to work closely with the Government of Pakistan to further enhance friendly relations and bilateral cooperation.
