Future iPhones Could be Usable Under Water

IPhones can easily withstand rain and even drowning these days, but once the screen gets wet, it's no longer usable.  The screen becomes very difficult to use or in some cases begins to flicker.  It is also very difficult to use the phone with wet fingers.

However, it appears that Apple is working on a solution to this problem, as evidenced by a recent patent.  A new Apple patent has been filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) which has just been published.  It shows a new technology that allows you to use the iPhone in the rain or under water.

Future iPhones Could be Usable Under Water

According to the patent description, future iPhones can adapt to humidity levels and adjust the response of the touch screen, control buttons and sensors.  Pressure and humidity sensors will help detect false touches on the screen due to liquids.  On-screen controls will adjust by splitting, resizing, or disappearing completely.

Capacito screens will be converted to pressure-sensitive screens like Apple's missing Force Touch and 3D Touch technologies.  This means that once wet you will have to press the screen more hard than usual.  The phone will also show you the current depth of the device and ask you to keep it within the water resistance range.

The camera app will also be designed to work better underwater.  For example, some buttons will be automatically removed from the user interface so that they cannot be activated, while others will be too large to make them easier to use.

It should be noted that this is just a patent and not all of them are put on the market, so we recommend taking this information with a pinch of salt.
