China cannot stop world leaders from visiting Taiwan, says US Speaker Pelosi

TAIPEI - US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi left Taiwan after a brief however dubious visit on Wednesday.

Pelosi, the most senior US lawmaker to visit Taiwan in 25 years, left on Wednesday in the wake of meeting pioneers in the capital Taipei. As a component of a more extensive Asian visit, her visit started wrath in Beijing after she overlooked the admonitions not to go to oneself managed island guaranteed by Beijing.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi blamed the US for "disregarding China's power all the while assuming a pretense of purported vote based system" and said : "The individuals who behave recklessly won't reach a decent conclusion and the people who irritate China will be rebuffed."

The senior US Democrat's visit was not supported by her party partner, President Joe Biden, who had said the American military felt it was "not a smart thought at this moment" in the midst of uplifted pressures between the two nations.

The US strolls a political tightrope with its Taiwan strategy. From one perspective, it keeps the "One China" strategy, which perceives just a single Chinese government, giving it formal binds with Beijing and not Taiwan.

On the other, it keeps a "strong informal" relationship with the island, which incorporates offering weapons for Taiwan to guard itself.

As speaker of the US House of Representatives, Pelosi is the second in line to the US administration, behind Vice-President Kamala Harris.

Because of the excursion, China reported what it called "vital and just" military drills in oceans around 10 miles (16km) from Taiwan.

The activities, which will start on Thursday and keep going for five days, will happen in a portion of the world's most active streams and will incorporate "long-range live ammo shooting".

Additionally, Taiwan mixed jets on Wednesday to caution away 27 Chinese airplane in its air guard zone.

Taiwanese Defense Ministry expressed 22 of them crossed the middle line isolating the island from China.
